The Cheetah Girls

This musical, based on Deborah Gregory’s novel of the same name, was directed by Oz Scout and produced by Debra Martin Chase, Whitney Houston, Jacqueline George and Deborah Gregory herself. It was released in 2003 with a budget of $5,000,000. The story is about four NY schoolgirls –Galleria Garibaldi (played by Raven-Symone), Chanel Simmons (Adrienne Bailon), Aquanette “Aqua” Walter (Kiely Williams) and Dorinda Rogers (Sabrina Bryan)– whom a musical producer finds highly talented. So a well-known record company signs them, and they become famous overnight. Due to the resounding success of the movie, the four actresses continued with the band.

The Cheetah Girls 2

The sequel of “The Cheetah Girls” was directed by Kenny Ortega and produced by Jose Luis Escobar, Jacqueline George, Raven-Symone and Whitney Houston; script by Alison Taylor and Bethesda Brown; music by David Lawrence. It has been a huge success ever since it was released, in 2006, as millions of TV viewers and large sales levels (DVDs, CDs, etc) prove. Moreover, many of the movie’s songs, such as “Strut”, “The party’s just begun”, “Step up” and “Cheetah Friends”, have turned into worldwide hits. On this occasion, the four girl friends go to Barcelona after graduating. There, they will take part in a young talent contest, in which Marisol (played by Belinda Peregrin), also participates. The movie has everything you need to have a great time –fun, adventure, friendship, emotions, cheerfulness, music... in other words, the whole caboodle!

High School Musical

Also directed by Kenny Ortega, also a huge success. Other credits: produced by Hill Borden, Don Schain and Barry Rosenbusch; script by Meter Barsocchini; music, again, by David Lawrence. This musical was released in 2006, and it has caused a great sensation within young audiences around the world –both the DVD (including the movie itself, backstage, and choreography) and the soundtrack music CD have sold like hot cakes. The story tells about Troy Bolton (played by Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Anne Hudgens), two classmates –in love with each other– who will do whatever it takes to top the bill in their high school’s next musical. It is a dynamic, optimistic movie, full of music and dancing. Its sequel, whose shooting is starting on February 2007, is expected to be another Disney Channel success.
