What is Disney Channel
Disney Channel is a cable television channel whose program planning is aimed at children and adolescents. It belongs to the Walt Disney Company (USA), and it reaches many different parts of the world, as we will see. Its current logo is Mickey Mouse’s unmistakable ears –with a bright edge– combined with the name of the channel written in dynamic typography.
Disney Channel has captivated young audiences all over the world. Besides the US, it is included in many other cable television networks of Europe (Denmark, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden, The UK and Portugal), the Middle East, Japan, Latin America (South zone: Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Peru and Chile /Central zone: Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Caribbean countries + Mexico and Brazil), Asia (Korea, Taiwan, India) and Australia.
In each region and country, Disney Channel offers the most famous series (e.g. That’s So Raven, Hanna Montana) at prime time, and then the program planning is filled with other Disney shows according to the tastes of each particular audience. Besides, each version of the channel often has its own young presenters, as it is the case, for instance, with the Latin American version, in which there is a special show called “Zapping Zone” to present the well-known series.
Disney Channel provides millions of TV viewers with a 24-hour program planning including original series and movies starred by the most popular teenage idols, such as Raven-Symone, Hillary Duff, Ashley Tisdale, Brenda Song, Adrienne Bailon, Sabrina Bryan, Kiely Williams, Alyson Michalka, Dylan and Cole Sprouse, Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Corbin Bleu, and Miley Cyrus.
Prime time is the period of the day when most people watch TV –in this case, weekdays afternoons and evenings–. Therefore, the most famous shows (e.g. Hanna Montana, That’s So Raven, Zack and Cody, Phil of the Future, Cory in the House, etc) are broadcast at prime time. New episodes are usually rebroadcast on Saturdays. During the rest of the day, you can enjoy the best cartoon series (Lilo & Stitch, Kim Possible, Jake Long, The Emperor’s New School, etc). Concerning Disney Channel original movies, they are scheduled on special days. The favorite ones are The Cheetah Girls 1 and 2, and High School Musical.
In addition to all this, Disney Channel’s program planning also includes musical videos, for you to listen to the best hits between one program and another. Each version of Disney Channel, besides, also offers special programs about handicrafts (Art Attack), the environment, history, classical music, mathematics, etc, which provide children with knowledge and skills.
